U.S. Congress holds joint session in NYC

NEW YORK-Last Friday, September 6, the House and Senate held a brief joint meeting in New York City honoring the one-year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The hour-long session, which occurred the first week after the U.S. Congress returned from the August recess, took place at Federal Hall. The event was one of a few matters that will distract lawmakers from their legislative duties during the month of September. Several primary elections occur this week, with many candidates working in some last minute campaigning, and the observance of Yom Kippur on September 16. Credit unions have several legislative items for which they are anxiously awaiting congressional attention, including bankruptcy abuse reform, regulatory relief, and Individual Development Accounts.
