Hastert commends CUNA on bankruptcy, reg relief efforts

WASHINGTON-Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) commended CUNA and the leagues on their efforts to push the bankruptcy abuse reform legislation (H.R. 333) and the regulatory relief bill (H.R 3951) through Congress this session. The remarks were part of a column to appear in CUNA's NewsWatch newsletter September 9. "With the strong support of CUNA, state credit union leagues and the nation's credit unions, the House has made significant strides on the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 3951)," the speaker wrote. Hastert also noted CUNA's work on the bankruptcy front. "I also commend your efforts here and at the grassroots level on behalf of Bankruptcy Abuse Reform - legislation that passed the House with strong bipartisan support in March 2001, went to conference with the Senate legislation in May 2002, and is close to final enactment," he wrote The column also reviews some of the House's accomplishments throughout 2002.
