COPENHAGEN, Denmark – A pilot project allowing consumers to use their wireless phones to get cash from traditional ATM's has been launched in Denmark by NCR Corp. AU-System and beamtrust a/s. The three ATM's are owned by Spar Nord Bank and Laan & Spar Bank. The consumer is able to choose transaction details before approaching the ATM, and when there, simply enter a PIN into the mobile phone. The ATM responds by processing the transaction and dispensing the cash, the companies say. They'll be watching closely to see how easy the system is to use and how consumers adapt to the replacement of their trusty magnetic-stripe card with a mobile phone.
