SAN ANTONIO – It started out four years ago with the best of intentions to provide staffing services to credit unions in the area, but on June 30 the San Antonio branch of Credit Union Employment Resources (CUER) will close its doors for business. Carmela McDermott, assistant vice president for CUER said the business was forced to make its decision because of low market demands for staffing services in the San Antonio area. `This decision was made after careful consideration and communications with area credit unions," McDermott said. CUER, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Texas Credit Union League opened its first branches in Dallas and Houston about eight years ago. A third branch opened in Austin shortly after. The San Antonio branch has been around for four years. When the San Antonio branch was initially open there was a need among credit unions to fill staffing positions, said McDermott. These mostly included front line spots, like teller positions. But market conditions have changed. CUER will continue to assist San Antonio credit unions with executive searches for CEOs, CFOs, vice presidents, and more. The CUER offices in Dallas, Houston and Austin will remain open and continue to assist credit unions with their staffing needs.
