Desert Schools tries `Sit Down' work stations in new branch

SUN CITY, Ariz. - In a new approach to branch design and personal service, Desert Schools Federal Credit Union is using "greeters" and teller work stations to make customers feel more comfortable about handling transactions. The new "one stop shopping concept" is being tried at a newly opened branch of in this Phoenix suburb. "We've been eager to eliminate the long teller lines and create a laid back atmosphere for our members which is why we have an official greeter at the front desk directing customers who come in the door," explained Nikki Krukovsky, manager of the branch, a converted former Wells Fargo Bank facility on West Grand Avenue in Sun City. The Desert Schools greeters direct members to teller desks or work stations spread across the lobby branch so that customers can sit down with member service representatives to conduct their transactions. There's also a lounge area where members can enjoy coffee if they have to wait to meet with a specific service rep. "The whole idea is to eliminate the rush situation," said Krukovsky. "We also have an express window where members who simply want to make a quick deposit can do so without waiting." According to Krukovsky, the work station/personal service idea is "being monitored" by the credit union's management staff for possible application at the other 15 Desert Schools branches in metropolitan Phoenix. She conceded that "the design may not work at our other branches, but it matches the laid back lifestyle of its members." -
