Virginia League "Bonu$ Buck$" offers education to small credit unions

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Virginia League is offering small credit unions the opportunity to take advantage of more training and education programs. Developed by the League's management team and Small Credit Union Preservation Committee, an association dedicated to creating small credit union initiatives, the Bonu$ Buck$ program addresses the immediate needs of small credit unions. "Life in the small credit union is so hectic that often there either isn't any time or there isn't any money left in the budget to attend training courses," said Virginia League Vice President of Public Relations Donna St. Clair. Approximately 80% of the 255 small credit unions in the state are Virginia League members. According to League studies, small credit unions in particular often miss out on educational opportunities because of staffing or budget concerns. The Bonu$ Buck$ program will give every small credit union $100 worth of coupons for League-sponsored training and educational programs. A small credit union is defined as having under $5 million in assets. Credit unions will have 12 months from the date of issuance to use their Bonu$ Buck$. "They can use these dollars according to their own individual needs," said League President Rick Pillow. "If they want to use the total $100 for one conference or workshop, that's fine. Or, they could reduce their cost to four different sessions by $25 each." Prices for the League educational and training classes range from $35-$150. Training and workshop classes offered include "Human Resources Compensation", "Marketing on a Shoestring Budget" and many others. The Bonu$ Buck$ can also be used toward CUNA conferences, workshops or classes. "It's really a win-win situation that provides encouragement to both parties," said St. Clair. Details about the Bonu$ Buck$ program will be mailed to affiliate credit unions later this month. The program is scheduled to roll out on June 1. -mbourjolly@cutimes.com
