I recently read Mike Welch's March 29 column on Fed charter conversions. It was excellent! As a multiple group CU, we have found it is becoming increasingly more difficult to get the support of sponsors to promote membership to their employees. Also, employees seem to be far less attracted to the "benefits" of credit union membership. My strong belief is that there has been a fundamental change in the marketplace. People don't seem to have any allegiance to institutions anymore. They are purely transaction oriented. If this is true, it may be due in part to the Internet and other societal changes.
