Shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in favor of President Donald Trump in the Trump v. Slaughter case, CU Times connected with Henry Meier, Esq., a well-known credit union attorney to discuss the merits and meanings of the decision.
Meier called this decision and "enormous transfer of power" and believes we will see a rush by the Trump administration to fill any vacant regulatory board positions, including the two vacant positions left by former NCUA Board members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka; both of whom were fired by President Trump in April 2025.
Harper and Otsuka sued the administration saying they were fired without cause and fought to get their jobs back. Monday's decision by the Supreme Court effectively shuts down the Harper-Otsuka case.
In this interview, Meier joined CU Times Sr. Director Michael Ogden to answer questions about what the decision means to the NCUA, other federal regulators and potentially the cooperative financial industry as a whole.
