America's Credit Unions urged the Senate Banking Committee to quickly advance John Crews' nomination to the NCUA Board, arguing his experience and regulatory philosophy position him to continue the agency's modernization efforts.

Following Thursday's confirmation hearing, the trade group praised Crews' testimony and encouraged senators to move his nomination to the full Senate.

"Thank you to Chairman Scott, Ranking Member Warren and members of the Senate Banking Committee for holding today's nomination hearing," James Akin, head of regulatory advocacy for America's Credit Unions, said. "John Crews' testimony highlights his experience, knowledge of financial services issues and qualification to serve on the NCUA Board."

Akin said Crews' confirmation would help advance ongoing efforts to modernize credit union regulation.

"Should Crews be confirmed, he would continue the agency's efforts to modernize and right-size credit union regulations for the future," Akin said. "Credit unions are a backbone for Main Street; it is no mistake that 146 million Americans rely on credit unions to improve their financial well-being."

During the hearing, Crews emphasized the importance of supporting de novo credit unions, particularly in rural communities, and said one of his top priorities would be tailoring regulations to better fit the size and complexity of smaller institutions.

America's Credit Unions has consistently advocated for a regulatory framework that reduces unnecessary burdens while preserving safety and soundness. The organization said Crews' approach aligns with those goals and would help strengthen the credit union system.

The Senate Banking Committee is expected to vote on Crews' nomination next month before sending it to the full Senate for consideration.
