Every year, I'm surprised by how much happens in the credit union industry the week before the Fourth of July, and this year is no exception.

As I recorded this week's PRO Pulse update, the industry was preparing for a rare NCUA Board meeting that could be Chairman Kyle Hauptman's last. At the same time, the Senate is scheduled to hold a nomination hearing for John Crews, President Trump's pick to replace him. Adding even more intrigue, the U.S. Supreme Court could soon issue a ruling on presidential authority over federal regulators—a decision that may directly affect the legal battle surrounding former NCUA board members Todd Harper and Tanya Otsuka.

I'm also encouraging readers to check out Jim DuPlessis' latest perspective piece examining whether warning signs in the alleged $95 million Jackson Area FCU fraud mirror red flags seen in previous major credit union fraud cases.

And tomorrow, Natasha Chilingerian and I will host a live discussion on mortgage trends with Jim DuPlessis and Amplify Credit Union's JC San Pedro. I hope you'll join us.
