John Bratsakis will become the new CEO of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates in August, the trade organization's Board of Directors announced Thursday.
He succeeds Patrick LaPine, who left the Tallahassee, Fla.-based league in April 2024. For nearly 15 years, Bratsakis has served as president/CEO of the Maryland & DC Credit Union Association, which advocates for credit unions in Maryland, Delaware and the Washington Metro Area.
Before joining the association in 2011, he previously worked as SVP for business development for the $6.5 billion Baxter Credit Union in Vernon Hills, Ill., and as CEO of the $339 million Community Trust Credit Union in Gurnee, Ill., according to his LinkedIn professional profile page.
"John is a proven leader with an exceptional track record of advancing the credit union mission, building meaningful relationships and delivering results," Richard "Rick" J. Skaggs said, who chairs The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates Board of Directors and is president/CEO of the $1.3 billion USF Credit Union in Tampa, Fla.
Bratsakis currently serves as chair of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) and has held numerous leadership roles across national credit union organizations, charitable initiatives and industry boards.
As president/CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Association, Bratsakis grew member affiliation and engagement, expanded strategic partnerships and developed programs to meet evolving industry needs, according to The League. He also co-founded Plexcity in 2014, which provides cost-efficient back-office services for dozens of credit unions, associations, foundations and small businesses nationwide.
"I am honored to join The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates and serve the credit unions, employees and communities that make this organization so impactful. Credit unions have never been more important to the financial well-being of consumers and small businesses," Bratsakis said. "I look forward to working alongside our talented team, dedicated volunteer leaders, member credit unions and business partners to advance our shared mission, strengthen our influence, and create new opportunities for continued growth and success."
The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates represents and advocates for 368 credit unions across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia that manage $477.6 billion in assets and serve 33.8 million members.
