Brett Wheeler

USALLIANCE Financial has promoted longtime executive Brett Wheeler to president/CEO, selecting an internal leader with deep regulatory and operational experience to guide the New York-based credit union into its next chapter.

Wheeler succeeds Harry Zhu, who is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities. The appointment was announced Wednesday by the credit union's board of directors.

A credit union veteran with more than two decades of industry experience, Wheeler has served as USALLIANCE's chief financial officer for the past nine years and previously held the role of interim CEO. Before joining the credit union, he spent nine years with the NCUA.

"Brett Wheeler is the right leader for this moment and for the many years ahead," Board Chair Carla Palma said in a statement. "His industry insight, strategic vision and deep understanding of our credit union's direction, culture, and member needs make him an exceptional choice to guide USALLIANCE into its next chapter."

During Wheeler's tenure as CFO, USALLIANCE grew to more than $3.4 billion in assets and expanded its nationwide membership base to more than 190,000 members. The credit union, originally founded in 1966 to serve IBM employees, has broadened its field of membership over the decades and now serves members in all 50 states.

Wheeler has been a key architect of the credit union's digital-first, branch-enhanced strategy, which combines technology investments with personalized member service.

"In my nine years at USALLIANCE, I have been continually inspired by our innovative employees who serve our growing membership base," Wheeler said. "I am humbled and honored to be selected to lead our credit union into its seventh decade."

The leadership transition comes as USALLIANCE prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary later this year.
