Late last month, Velera's President/CEO Chuck Fagan announced that he was stepping down from his position at the largest CUSO to head into retirement at the end of September.
Longtime Velera executive Brian Caldarelli is set to succeed him on Oct. 1.
But first, Fagan had one 50-minute-long goodbye to say to the 2,000 people attending the VeleraLIVE conference in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday.
Within seconds of coming on stage to provide his keynote address, Fagan's emotions came through as he recognized that the speech was the last VeleraLIVE opening address.
Fagan told the audience, "Thank you for believing in me." In turn, the audience responded with a standing ovation.
CU Times spoke with Fagan moments after leaving the stage to talk about his plan, what work is left to do and how a boat will play a large part in his post-Velera life. Watch the full interview below.
