The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, headquartered in Tallahassee, Fla., has launched a national search for a new chief executive officer, signaling a shift in its leadership structure following a two-year period without a CEO.

The move, approved by the organization's board of directors, is aimed at strengthening long-term strategy and enterprise-wide alignment across the regional trade group, which represents 373 credit unions serving 33.6 million members across the Southeast.

The announcement initially caused confusion about current leadership. In clarifying statements, a League spokesperson said Samantha Beeler continues to serve as president of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates, while Steve Willis remains president of LEVERAGE, its business services arm. The organization has operated without a CEO during its recent evolution but plans to reinstate the role moving forward.

"The League previously had a CEO, but we went through an organizational evolution," the spokesperson said. "We are committed to a CEO structure moving forward, while maintaining the current leadership."

Board Chair Richard "Rick" J. Skaggs said the search reflects a focus on future growth and governance. Sterling|Martin has been retained to lead the national search.
