Minal Gupta was named president/CEO of the $9.3 billion Star One Credit Union in Sunnyvale, Calif.
She succeeds Gary Rodrigues, who is retiring after more than 34 years of service at the financial cooperative.
After a national search by D. Hilton Associates, the board of directors selected Gupta to lead the credit union.
"Minal is a gifted leader. Her strategic vision and clarity of purpose make her the perfect person to carry on Gary's legacy of delivering value to our members," Board Chair Melissa Henck said. "We're incredibly grateful for Gary's dedication to our community and wish him a happy retirement."
Gupta began working at Star One in 2019, serving as vice president of remote services before being promoted to SVP of operations, EVP, and president. During her executive tenure, Minal led Star One's digital initiative that advanced payment solutions such as Zelle and Same Day ACH, which positioned Star One as the first in the nation to offer real-time payments through the FedNow Service, according to Gupta's LinkedIn page.
Before joining the credit union, Gupta served as director of marketing technologies and analytics at California's Freemont Bank. She also worked as a vice president at Citi Bank, and as an assistant vice president at Farmers and Merchants Bank and Wells Fargo.
"I've had the chance to work closely with Minal for the past seven years, and what stands out most is how deeply she cares about our members, our employees and the communities we serve," Rodrigues said. "Her commitment to delivering on Star One's member-first mission makes her the perfect leader for the future. As I step away after 34 years, I can't imagine a better person to lead Star One."
The credit union's 258 employees operate seven locations and serve more than 132,000 members.
"I'm grateful to have worked with Gary for the last seven years, and I am honored to continue Star One's mission of putting people over profits and building a stronger financial future for our members," Gupta said. "As a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution, our members are not just customers, they are owners. Every decision we make is viewed through the lens of how it benefits our membership."
