The quick actions by Florida authorities prevented a $19,000 loss for a Navy Federal Credit Union member.

On Jan. 17, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., police responded to a call from an unidentified victim who received a call from a female, claiming to be a Navy Federal Credit Union employee. The employee told the victim her Navy Federal account was compromised and was instructed to transfer $1,200 to a Cash App account, which the victim did, according to police.

The next day, the female victim was contacted again, this time by a male claiming to be with Navy Federal, who instructed the victim to withdraw $19,000 and overnight the cash in a FedEx package to an address in Fort Pierce, Fla., which she did.

Later that day, the woman became suspicious and contacted Fort Walton Beach police.

Knowing the cash package was already en route, the Fort Walton Beach police, its criminal investigation and evidence units, and the Walton County Sheriff, moved quickly to track the package, which they intercepted at the FedEx facility in Mossy Head.

The cash package was returned to the female victim.

Police did not say whether any suspects who carried out this scheme have been arrested.
