The Board of Directors for the Association of Vermont Credit Unions (AVCU) appointed Carrie Allen president/CEO, according to an announcement released Tuesday. She took the helm of the Vermont association on Jan. 1, succeeding Joe Bergeron, who retired at the end of 2025.

Allen joined the AVCU leadership team in 2024 as COO. Prior to starting her tenure at AVCU, she served as chief marketing and strategy officer at the $812 million Heritage Family Credit Union in Rutland, Vt.

Carrie Allen

"We welcome Carrie as the new president/CEO of the Association of Vermont Credit Unions. She brings a unique perspective to the trade association, having served in natural person credit unions for almost 15 years, and seeing the very real, daily challenges facing our operations,” Jean Girad, AVCU board chair and CEO of the $1 billion, South Burlington-based Vermont Federal Credit Union, said in a prepared statement. “She is a dynamic leader with a proven track record building relationships with diverse stakeholders. The Board of Directors is excited about this next chapter, and we look forward to working with Carrie to plan the path forward for our members and the Vermont credit union industry of the future."

In her new role as president/CEO, Allen will address legislative and regulatory issues impacting Vermont credit unions, champion their voice in the media and among community partners, oversee the development of events and resources to benefit member businesses, and support the board's ongoing development as a strategic governing body.
