The Credit Union Impact Foundation, the charitable arm of The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates – which represents credit unions across Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Virginia – has boosted its disaster response capabilities with the launch of a mobile relief unit, the Foundation announced last week.

Made possible through a partnership with disaster relief and community support nonprofit ServeComm, the 48-foot Disaster Response Vehicle can be deployed within 24 hours anywhere in the League’s four-state footprint to assist credit union staff, members and community members in need of basic services following an emergency. It features an onboard generator, washers and dryers, portable showers and Starlink internet, helping families and individuals to clean up, reconnect with loved ones and begin filing insurance claims as they wait for traditional infrastructure to be restored.

“This partnership reflects our deep commitment to giving back and strengthening community resilience,” Credit Union Impact Foundation Executive Director Bobbi Grady said. “The Disaster Response Vehicle reinforces that promise – ensuring credit unions can extend their support even further and stand ready to serve communities when they need it most.”

As part of the Foundation’s partnership with ServeComm, credit unions in the four Southern states can access equipment from the nonprofit to use during community events.

“Several years ago, we started talking with The League about what they do in disasters and how our partnership could really take it to the next level,” ServeComm Founder Mike O’Brien said. “Seeing this vehicle come to life shows what can happen when organizations come together with a shared purpose.”

The Foundation noted that sponsorships from Corporate America Credit Union ($5.2 billion, Irondale, Ala.) and Corporate One Federal Credit Union ($8 billion, Columbus) helped provide funding for the Disaster Relief Unit.
