In celebration of Veterans Day, credit unions across the country highlighted their deep connection to military communities, a bond built on service, trust and support. Among them, GECU in El Paso, Texas is putting that commitment into action by volunteering with Veterans at Breakfast, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting and connecting Veterans year-round.

GECU employees recently served breakfast to dozens of Veterans at the group’s monthly gathering at American Legion Paso del Norte Post 58 in Northeast El Paso. The event brought together former service members from all branches to share a meal, exchange stories and stay informed on issues affecting the Veteran community.

“At GECU, we believe in honoring our Veterans not just on Veterans Day, but year-round,” Gina Lewis, director of Military and Veterans Affairs at GECU, said. “Supporting Veterans at Breakfast allows us to connect with and serve those who have given so much for our country. It’s a privilege for our team to participate and show our gratitude in a meaningful way.”

Each month, GECU provides volunteers to help host the breakfast, a small but powerful gesture that reflects the broader credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Credit unions nationwide, many of which were founded to serve military members and federal employees, continue to offer specialized financial education, community programs, and low-cost services tailored to Veterans and their families.
