Police say employees at a Massachusetts credit union played a key role in the capture and arrest of a 17-year-old suspected bank robber.

At 3:37 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, police officers were dispatched to a branch of the $1.5 billion Webster First Federal Credit Union in Dudley, about 60 miles southwest of Boston.

During the investigation, credit union employees gave officer a detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle. A short time later, police spotted the suspect’s vehicle in Dudley and detained a 17-year-old male.

Authorities executed a search warrant of a residence and recovered the stolen money, along with a Halloween mask, clothing and additional evidence directly linked to the credit union robbery.

Police did not disclose how the robbery was carried out, who the suspect approached in the branch, what actions he took or whether he wore the Halloween during the crime.

The teenager was transported to the Dudley police station and booked on charges of unarmed robbery and three counts of assault. Police did not specify who the alleged assault victims were.

“The Dudley Police Department would also like to thank the staff at the Webster First Federal Credit Union for their cooperation in providing critical information regarding the suspect and the vehicle which led to (the) quick apprehension of the suspect,” Dudley Police Chief Marek Karlowicz said.

Webster First FCU did not respond to a CU Times request for comment.
