The $9.5 billion, Portland, Ore.-based OnPoint Community Credit Union hired Jason Buchanan as chief credit officer. In his new role, Buchanan will oversee the credit union’s collections, consumer lending, credit administration, mortgage underwriting, commercial credit administration and indirect lending teams. Before joining OnPoint, he served in credit and risk management roles at Blue Federal Credit Union ($2.1 billion, Cheyenne, Wyo.), BBVA USA and Texas Capital Bank. He also has experience with startup incubation and portfolio management. In addition, Buchanan serves on the board of Arts and Songwriting Foundations and founded a nonprofit that funds micro-grants for individuals and groups who face challenges in obtaining funding.

The $442 million, Germantown, Md.-based Mid-Atlantic Federal Credit Union announced two board appointments.
Allen P. DeLeon was appointed Board chairman. He has served on the credit union’s Board of Directors for more than seven years in various roles. DeLeon, a Certified Public Accountant, is CEO of DeLeon & Stang, a Washington, D.C.-based accounting and consulting firm serving credit unions and nonprofit organizations. He also lends his leadership to several community boards, including service as a member of the Holy Cross Health Foundation Board, treasurer of the Montgomery College Life Sciences Park Foundation, Inc. and past chairman of the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce.

Anthony Spearman-Leach was appointed Board treasurer. He has also served on the credit union’s Board of Directors for more than seven years in various roles. Spearman-Leach is director of business development and philanthropy at the National Academy of Public Administration. He also serves as a Board director for the Montgomery College Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology and as a Board director for Leadership Montgomery.

The $8.2 billion, Enola, Pa.-based Members 1st Federal Credit Union announced that it has expanded the role of Robert Muth, SVP of infrastructure and operations, to include the title artificial intelligence officer. Muth’s new responsibility reflects the credit union’s commitment to leveraging technology in ways that strengthen the personal relationships that set Members 1st apart. He previously built the credit union’s AI Center of Excellence. Members 1st has piloted AI solutions such as intelligent chat support and document automation, laying the groundwork for more personalized and proactive service, and looking ahead, it plans to leverage AI to provide associates with smarter tools, predictive insights and streamlined processes.

The $1.3 billion, Sparks, Md.-based First Financial Federal Credit Union appointed James C. Wheeler president, effective Oct. 1, 2025. Eric Church will remain in his position as CEO. In his new role, Wheeler will lead all aspects of First Financial’s daily operations and strategic growth initiatives as well as oversee the senior leadership team. Wheeler most recently served as the credit union’s SVP/COO. Before that, he held numerous leadership positions within First Financial, including chief risk officer and chief information and risk officer, and worked in the financial services industry for more than 20 years. He serves as executive sponsor and mentor for the Limitless Leaders Employee Resource Group, supporting the next generation of credit union leaders. Additionally, he served over 24 years in the United States Marine Corps and Maryland Army National Guard, and holds numerous professional certifications including CISSP, PMP and CompTIA Security+.
