Michigan authorities are searching for the person or persons who made bomb threats Wednesday targeting the $145 million Community First Federal Credit Union in Lakeview and Tri County High School in Howard City.
After receiving the bomb threat via a phone call at about noon, Community First Credit Union (CFFCU) immediately called the police, who responded at around 12:11 p.m.
“As a precautionary measure, we closed all CFFCU buildings and safely evacuated all staff,” CFFCU President/CEO Timothy G. Ramussen wrote on a social media post. “We are grateful to report that everyone is safe and accounted for.”
All branch lobbies were closed for the remainder of the day.
“With the assistance of local and neighboring law enforcement, all branch offices were secured and cleared by uniformed officers,” Montcalm County Sheriff Mike Williams said. “The investigation led deputies to believe the threat was not credible.”
While deputies were investigating the bomb threat at the credit union, a second bomb threat was reported at Tri County High School, which was placed on lock-down.
Police, aided by a K9 team, conducted a precautionary sweep of the building. No explosive devices were found, and authorities later determined the threat was also not credible.
Police said they believe the threats may be connected and are continuing to investigate their source.
