The North Haven, Conn.-based Connex Credit Union disclosed a data security incident affecting 172,000 people, including 467 Maine residents, following unusual network activity detected on June 3, 2025. According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the credit union immediately launched an investigation with the help of independent cybersecurity experts.
The probe determined that certain files may have been accessed or downloaded without authorization between June 2 and June 3. On July 27, Connex identified individuals whose personal information may have been involved and began mailing notification letters on Aug. 6.
Potentially affected data included names, account numbers, debit card information, Social Security numbers and other government-issued IDs used to open accounts. Connex emphasized that it has “no reason to believe” member accounts or funds were accessed.
In response, the credit union secured its network systems, notified federal regulators and law enforcement, and is offering 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company. A dedicated toll-free call center has also been established to address member concerns.
Members were advised to remain vigilant, review account statements and monitor credit reports for suspicious activity. Connex’s online security center provides additional fraud prevention tips.
Connex Credit Union, with $1 billion in assets, serves more than 70,000 members with branches across Connecticut.
