Police said Tuesday night that Sylvester Ofori was arrested for the fatal shooting of his wife, Barbara Tommey, a Navy Federal Credit Union assistant manager at an Orlando, Fla., branch.
Ofori, 35, allegedly shot his 27-year-old wife Tuesday at about 8:53 a.m. near the front door at the Navy Federal branch on Gardens Parks Boulevard, Orlando police reported.
Tommey was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Barbara Tommey During the investigation, police secured a search warrant for Ofori's apartment in Orlando, where he was arrested. He was booked on the charge of first degree murder with a firearm Tuesday night, according to Orlando County Jail records. He is being held with bond.
"The [surveillance] video captured the whole incident – it was very clear what he did," Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolón said during a press conference near the Navy Federal branch shortly after the fatal shooting.
Chief Rolón said Tommey was trying to get into the Navy Federal branch when she was fatally shot.
Sylvester Ofori "You could tell [from the video] she was surprised by what was happening," he said.
According to her LinkedIn page, Tommey was appointed assistant manager in May. She joined Navy Federal in August 2015 as a senior member service representative.
In a prepared statement released Tuesday, Navy Federal said: "This morning, a team member was fatally injured during an act of violence outside our Millenia branch, by a man she knew, according to the police. Our thoughts are with our team member's family. Our number one priority is keeping both our members and team members safe. We will ensure all team members at the branch are provided with the support they need during this time. Any further information can be provided by the Orlando Police Department."
