A new partnership between the $8.2 billion Alliant Credit Union in Chicago and the Business and Professional Women's Foundation in Washington, D.C., is offering free financial education, employment counseling and other related services for U.S women veterans and their spouses.
“This new financial literacy support program is designed to promote and facilitate economic stability and prosperity,” said David Mooney, Alliant's president/CEO.
The program will be available to all members of the BPW Foundation's Joining Forces Mentoring Plus, an online employment mentoring platform that includes subject matter experts and online connections.
BPW Foundation CEO Deborah L. Frett said the Joining Forces Mentoring Plus audience needs access to financial literacy tools and education.
“Alliant Credit Union's commitment to provide financial literacy assistance for women in general, and military women in particular, makes them an ideal partner for us,” Frett said.
A grant from the Alliant Credit Union Foundation grant will help develop the new program. Alliant also said it plans to help the BPW Foundation build a consortium of credit unions to expand and enhance the financial literacy support program.
The consortium will develop and oversee financial resources to help younger women veterans establish credit, assist military spouses in meeting relocation challenges; guide veterans and their spouses to create a plan for careers or retirement; educate military spouse caregivers about managing family finances; and offer advice and access to capital for entrepreneurs and business owners, Alliant and the foundation said.
