Diamond Credit Union, Pottstown, Pa., was voted the People's Choice in credit unions for the third consecutive year. The 15th annual Berks County People's Choice Who's Who in Business survey is a survey conducted by an independent market research firm. The survey is presented by the publishers of Berks County Living Magazine and identifies the region's leaders in multiple business categories as determined by the residents of each market. Diamond Credit Union has been named the People's Choice in Berks County in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, and now 2012.
Mountain America Credit Union, Salt Lake City, was recognized as one of Utah's Best Places to Work by the State of Utah Department of Workforce Services Office of Work and Family Life. For this annual recognition program, employees are invited to complete a confidential survey provided by the state, which scores the following areas: flexibility and benefits; whole life; workplace excellence; and business and people success. This is the seventh time Mountain America has been honored with the award. The award recognizes companies that have created outstanding work environments and business growth by providing well for the work/life needs of their employees. These organizations strive to develop company cultures that embrace fairness and offer opportunities for career development. In addition, Mountain America congratulated Senior Vice President Sharon S. Cook on being recognized by Utah Business magazine with one of its first annual Sales and Marketing Professional of the Year awards. The award honors sales and marketing gurus who have had a direct, measurable impact on their company's bottom line.
San Francisco Federal Credit Union, San Francisco, had its CommunityShare program become the recipient of the 2011 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for California. The award recognizes efforts to strengthen local institutions and improve the lives of nonmembers through community outreach programs. Some CommunityShare activities for 2011 included the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk, Women's Community Clinic Coat Drive and AIDS Walk. Throughout 2011, the CU collected 250 pounds of food for families in need. In addition, 46 employees from San Francisco Federal Credit Union donated their time at two food bank events packing food. The credit union also presented a check for $6,000 for the San Francisco Food Bank, and, through a collection of employees and members, an additional $1,000 was raised. Recently San Francisco Federal Credit Union raised more than $2,600 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in October. San Francisco Federal Credit Union ended the year with 715 volunteer hours and over $68,000 in total donations.
Service 1st Federal Credit Union, Danville, Pa., was recognized by the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce with the Community Progress Award. The award is presented annually to the local business or organization that made a significant contribution to the renovation or restoration of property within the Columbia and Montour County region. The award was presented to Service 1st in recognition for the construction and development of a Corporate Center office situated along Route 11 north of Danville. In late 2010, Service 1st opened the doors to its approximately 18,000 square-foot facility which features retail lobby space, a three-lane drive-up, ATM and night depository.
Sharon Credit Union, Sharon, Mass., had its Foxboro office's Branch Manager Ingrid Williams recognized as the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce's Business Person of Year for 2011. The award is presented to the Chamber member who exemplifies the best of what being a businessperson and a community leader is all about. In recognition of Williams' community involvement, State Representative Elizabeth Poirier presented her with a commendation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives. In addition to supporting the Chamber, Williams also volunteers for Foxboro Founder's Day Committee, First and Ten, Exchange City, Credit for Life Fair, Norton 300 Parade, The Amazing Race – Tri-Town Drug and Alcohol Coalition. She is president elect of the Foxboro Rotary Club, and was the recipient of the Foxboro Rotary's 2011 Paul Harris Award.
Teachers Federal Credit Union, Hauppauge, N.Y., had President/CEO Robert G. Allen honored at the Advancement for Commerce, Industry and Technology awards luncheon. Mr. Allen received the organization's Commitment to Excellence and Leadership Award in the Field of Financial Services.
Texas Trust Credit Union, Mansfield, Texas, was recently named best bank/credit union of Mansfield. This is the sixth consecutive year that Texas Trust has received this honor. The annual Best of Mansfield award is a community-nominated award program that recognizes the best businesses and professionals in the city of 56,000 residents. Residents nominate local businesses they consider the best in the city. Texas Trust received more nominations than any of the other 21 financial institutions located in Mansfield. The Best of Mansfield Awards is sponsored by the Mansfield News Mirror, a community-oriented publication of the Star-Telegram, which is owned by The McClatchy Company, the third-largest newspaper company in the U.S.
Unity One Credit Union, Austin, Texas, was recently named as one of the 2012 Best Companies to Work for in Texas. The awards program was created in 2006 and is a project of Texas Monthly, the Texas Association of Business, the Texas State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management and Best Companies Group. This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Texas, benefiting the state's economy.
