AUSTIN, Texas — The Credit Union Information Security Professionals Association is offering a free multifactor authentication solution to all its members and any credit union under $250 million in assets.
The BetterMFA solution was created in conjunction with Jwaala, an Austin-based CUSO of Amplify FCU that provides online banking, money management and other solutions.
CUISPA said the BetterMFA solution lets end users–credit union members–choose their authentication method and change it anytime. Options include challenge questions, password by e-mail, password by SMS, software tokens and hard-ware tokens.
The solution also will provide sign-in histories and alerts of successful and failed log-in attempts that can be distributed by RSS, e-mail, SMS and embeddable widgets.
In addition, CUISPA is providing a user community forum for free and an optional full support and service arrangement for approximately $1,000 a year, said Kelly Dowell, CUISPA executive director.
Access to the solutions' source code and documentation also is provided for credit unions that want to customize it further.
"Often providing something for free leaves the impression that it has no value," Dowell said. "But in this case, we're fortunate to have developed a relationship with a gracious vendor [Jwaala] that shares a common belief that security is critical in our industry. BetterMFA is now available to help improve authentication, providing a more user considerate solution and eliminating some of the expense of securing online banking."

Cyveillance Offers Guarantees
ARLINGTON, Va. — Two new service-level agreements that guarantee its customers won't suffer from successful cyberattacks or false alerts are now being offered by Cyveillance.
The Cyveillance accuracy guarantee ensures the company will only alert customers to verified, authentic phishing attacks, eliminating the risk of false positives and unwarranted customer analysis. Meanwhile, the Cyveillance detection guarantee certifies that Cyveillance will detect 100% of all phishing attacks targeting end-user customers and members.
"Combined with our existing [service-level agreements], these two new guarantees address concerns of quality and comprehensiveness posed by organizations when evaluating an anti-phishing service," said Panos Anastassiadis, CEO and chairman of Cyveillance (www.cyveillance.com).
"With the threat of phishing attacks rising, organizations that have accurate, proactive intelligence are better equipped to prevent these risks from reaching their customers and employees," Anastassiadis said.
Cyveillance provides Internet monitoring and intelligence analysis to a client list it said now includes the majority of the Fortune 50, regional financial institutions nationwide, and more than 30 million global consumers through partnerships with security and service providers that include AOL and Microsoft.
EVault Touts 40 UltraData Signings
EMERYVILLE, Calif. — EVault Inc. said it has signed more than 40 users of the UltraData Enterprise core processing system as clients of its online backup storage services in the past year.
EVault, part of Seagate Technologies, formed a partnership with UltraData owner Harland Financial Services in June 2007.
The EVault InfoStage disk-to-data protection software eliminates tape and is used to back up the credit unions' business-critical data at HFS's Enterprise Services Center, providing disaster recovery security and maintaining regulatory compliance, the companies said.
"In the event a recovery is required, we are confident our clients' data will be secure and available for immediate, user-initiated recovery," said Scott Huseman, director of service bureau operations and IT for Atlanta-based HFS.
"We went from a scenario where it would take three to four days to get back up and running to a scenario where two-and-a-half to three hours later, we have our whole system, our online banking and our telephony, back up to almost full capacity as if nothing had happened," said Mark Spaw, vice president of IT at the $103 million Marshland Community FCU in Brunswick, Ga.
EVault said its data protection technology now is used by more than 20,000 customers worldwide, including hundreds of credit unions in North America.
