MIAMI — A new study commissioned by a nonprofit organization which serves primarily Hispanics argues the pool of consumers who lack adequate access to financial services remains large.

Encuesta Inc., an Hispanic marketing firm, conducted the survey on behalf of ACCION USA, a noted micro-lender with 806 adults between the ages of 25 to 55 whose reported household income fell below $55,000 per year. Survey organizers reported weighting the survey sample to include participants from four different ethnic sub-groups other than Hispanics.

The survey found that 53% of the lower or middle income Hispanics that were surveyed responded that they either had no relationship at all with bank of credit union or had a relationship which consisted of only a savings account and not transaction accounts.

"This survey data offers cause for concern about the financial habits of LMI Americans, especially those of Hispanic descent" said Elizete Groenendaal, Vice-President of Marketing at ACCION USA when announcing the survey results.
