WASHINGTON — Four people with current or former ties to credit unions were named Monday to key positions on the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy.

Ted Beck, president and CEO of the National Endowment for Financial Education will chair the council's Outreach Committee. The endowment, which funds an array of educational programs, receives contributions from CUNA and several individual credit unions.

John Bryant, president of Operation Hope, a non-profit social investment banking organization that works with many credit unions to provide economic opportunities and education in low-income areas, will chair the council's Committee on Underserved Populations.

Cutler Dawson, president and CEO of the Navy Federal Credit Union, will be the council's liaison to the Financial and Literacy Education Commission, which is comprised of 20 federal agencies, led by the Treasury Department.

Laura Levine, the executive director of the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and a past vice president of the California Credit Union League and of the Vista Federal Credit Union, will chair the Committee on Financial Education for Youth.

The President's Commission on Financial Literacy is coming up with proposed public-and private-sector initiatives to raise people's knowledge of personal finance issues.
