ARVADA, Colo. — The Credit Union Association of Colorado which last November opened its membership to out-of-state CUs to underscore industry regionalization has added a second CU, the $215 million Warren FCU of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Citing networking advantages, Warren, Wyoming's second largest CU, said it sought the affiliation in light of its branch in Wellington, Colo., just across the Wyoming line in the northeast corner of Colorado.
Without naming the state, officials of the Colorado trade group said another CU with speculation centering on Utah may join the organization as dues paying members later this year.
Security Service Credit Union of San Antonio, which has long maintained branches in metropolitan Denver and has shepherded several mergers, joined the CUAC in November.
John Dill, president/CEO of CUAC, said the addition of Warren reflects the need for CUs to collaborate more closely on a regional basis. Warren, with 27,000 members, serves a large number of military personnel in the Cheyenne area.
It was noted that Warren, in belonging to CUAC, also pays dues to the Credit Union Association of Wyoming, which is managed by CUAC. The CUAW adopted a similar bylaw as Colorado's a year ago allowing out of state CUs operating in that state to join the CUAW.
