VANCOUVER, Wash. — For the second time in a month, shots have been fired in the course of a credit union robbery.

Newspapers in Washington and Oregon has reported that a masked man shot his way into the $5 million Northwest Navigation Federal Credit Union 15 minutes before the CU was scheduled to open on April 29.

Three employees were in the credit union when a man walked up to the glass door. Finding the door locked, the man shot twice into it, shattering the glass. He then entered, pointed the gun at employees, proceeded to the vault area where he stole some cash and left.

Police reported that this is the second robbery of a credit union in the area in two days. On April 28 a man robbed a branch of the $113 million People's Community Credit Union but said they had not determined if the robberies were related.

In early April, an armed robber shot and wounded a teller at a branch of the $15 billion State Employees Credit Union in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Authorities say that, in general, while robbers may brandish weapons in the course of a credit union robbery, they generally do not use them.
