WASHINGTON — One of the first orders of business when lawmakers return from the August district work period is a hearing on the credit markets in the House Financial Services Committee.

Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) has announced that the committee will hold a general oversight hearing on the current crises in the credit markets, mortgage market and the implications for the U.S. consumer and the economy. The hearing, entitled Recent Events in the Credit and Mortgage Markets and Possible Implications for U.S. Consumers and the Global Economy, is scheduled for Sept. 5 at 10:00 a.m. Witnesses had not been named as of press time though one panel will be from Treasury and the Federal Reserve and the other from industry.
