GREENVILLE, S.C. -- For SC Telco Federal Credit Union Vice President of Administration Patti Seymore every piece of furniture has a story to tell it is just a matter of coaxing it out.

"I just love the adventure of discovering what is hidden underneath", said Seymore of her refinishing projects.

Her refinishing of furniture began as a lark, when she needed some furniture and found an old chiffonier at her parents' house that had been painted.

"When I stripped off that paint and found this beautiful wood underneath, I re-stained it and it was truly just a gorgeous piece of furniture after that it became my fascination," said Seymore.

Since then she's breathed life back into a dozen or so pieces she received from both sets of grandparents and has even helped her mother refinish her kitchen cabinets.

"Two of my favorites projects are a vintage RCA radio that was antiqued white and a desk that had been painted green that came from my maternal grandmother when she downsized her home," said Seymore. "Once I completed the work on the furniture she just laughed and said she didn't know what she was thinking when she decided to paint over them. It made me feel good that she liked them being restored to their original state."

Working in her garage, it can take a month or so to refinish a piece of furniture depending how intricate the wood design is. Adding that since she is self taught it is still a lot of trial and error and learning as she goes, but Seymore says that is all part of the joy of discovery.
