HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — For many members of Generation Y, a car is their first large purchase and GrooveCar is reaching out to the group with buying, selling, leasing and financing education in the form of a blog.
The blog is housed at MySpace (www.myspace.com/groovecarhome) and features new content, which the organization hopes will help attract and retain the Gen Y demographic. The blog provides tips to get the best discounts, discusses first-time buyer programs, deals with creditworthiness, warranty issues, getting low credit union interest rates and achieving discounts on parts, labor and accessories. It also encourages chatting and feedback from its viewers.
"We wanted to target the younger generation and be a real consumer advocate for them," said Jon Pei, GrooveCar's director of member relations. "Since we already have set up the program with the dealerships, we felt that the younger generation can also use it to help them get a good deal on their own vehicle. And, from our experiences in speaking with customers, we know that many first-time buyers or inexperienced car shoppers haven't a clue about buying a vehicle and, as a result, frequently get taken advantage of by the dealerships."
Adding to its list of CU clients, the $34 million Eastern New York Federal Credit Union has turned to GrooveCar for automotive services. Eastern New York FCU, based in Napanoch, is the vendor's first credit union client in upstate New York.
GrooveCar's products and services will allow Eastern New York's members to receive competitive prices and service while spending less time shopping for any automotive needs and wants, the vendor said.
