PURCHASE, N.Y. — Taco Bell, a major fast food chain, has decided to test using MasterCard's contactless payment product in some of its stores, the No. 2 card brand said.
Later this year, about 100 stores will begin accepting MasterCard PayPass, which allows customers with PayPass-enabled cards to pay by tapping their cards on a reader at the checkout counter, the card brand said. If the test is successful at those stores, additional stores will be added throughout 2008, until all of Taco Bell's 1,300 company-owned restaurants are included in the test, according to a news release from Taco Bell.
Purchases under $25 will not require the customer to sign a receipt. The Taco Bell stores included in the test will continue to accept traditional magnetic-stripe payment cards.
