WASHINGTON — Crimeware applications soared in December as fraudsters continued seeking new ways to steal online passwords, according to the latest report from the Anti-Phishing Working Group (www.apwg.org.) There were 340 variants recorded in December, the most ever, the anti-fraud coalition says. Meanwhile, the number of phishing spoof sites dropped considerably in December from November as even thieves apparently took some time off for the holidays.
