PEORIA, Ill. — CEFCU has recently demonstrated its continued commitment to the community with its pledge of $1 million toward the Milestone Project, the expansion and modernization project of Children's Hospital of Illinois.
The funds will be used to name the new CEFCU Children's Emergency Department, which will feature expanded emergency services including a child-friendly waiting area and new treatment rooms for children.
According to CEFCU President/CEO Mark Spenny, the contribution is a continuation of the credit union's commitment to children in Central Illinois. The CEFCU-sponsored "Brighten a Child's Life" campaign features holiday greeting cards designed by area children and has helped the credit union raise more than $500,000 for Children's Hospital programs and services since 1986.
"As a community credit union, CEFCU serves a defined membership area in Central Illinois. The Children's Hospital is an excellent fit in that it serves the very footprint where CEFCU serves as a community credit union. And, CEFCU member/owners have always been extremely supportive of CEFCU's giving when it comes to helping children in need," said Spenny.
Accepting the contribution was Paul Kramer, executive director for the Children's Hospital, and Dr. Rick Pearl, chief of surgery for the hospital.
"Children are not small adults, and we must understand those differences, from how we treat them as patients to how we design our facility," said Pearl, referring to the earmarking of this donation to the new CEFCU Children's Emergency Department. "When young patients and their families come to Children's Hospital in the future, it will be very obvious that we plan to care for them in a special way."
The Milestone Project will have groundbreaking ceremonies this summer with occupancy scheduled for 2010.
