CLEVELAND – Four law firms involved with the credit union movement and experienced in handling credit union and regulatory issues have launched a podcast about credit unions and the legal issues facing them.

The Current Issues in Credit Unions (CiiCU) podcast is hosted by a team of four attorneys involved with the credit union movement and is designed for credit union officers, directors, employees, volunteers and anyone interested in the credit union movement.

The CiiCU team says it plans to cover "hot topics and breaking legal news in a lively and interesting format on a regular basis."

The team includes: Brian Witt of Farleigh Witt; Gwen Baker of Veneble LLP; Guy Messick of Messick & Weber P.C.; and Rob Rutkowki of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A.

The podcast is accessible on the Internet through the iTunes Music Store.

The first podcast episode addresses courtesy pay, CUSO taxation updates, selling repossessed vehicles on eBay, tips on avoiding trouble in CU mergers, credit union board governance best practices, dealing with difficult members and the dangers of collateral protection insurance.

Among the topics that will be covered in future episodes are the new regulatory guidance on nontraditional real estate lending products and tracking nonmember information as part of a CU's Bank Secrecy Act policy.
