NEW CASTLE, Del. – Delaware credit unions want to be sure consumers know about Credit Union Week and the CU difference. For the fourth year, credit unions in the state celebrated Credit Union Week by publishing their Credit Union Supplement in Delaware's statewide newspaper, The News Journal. The 16-page, full-color supplement ran Oct. 18 and was paid for by advertising from Delaware CUs. The theme of the supplement was, "Credit Unions: Get the Difference!" It included various articles, showcased CU volunteers from throughout the state, and included an explanation of the structure of credit unions and how to join as well as articles on car buying, financial literacy and other items of interest to consumers. Delaware Credit Union League Communications Director Alice Smith, said, "Most credit unions realize they need to tell the public who we are, to advertise credit union services, and to maintain visibility among members and potential members alike. However most credit unions cannot afford the cost of mass media advertising. We think this cooperative newspaper supplement is the answer." They obviously are right. Smith said during the morning of Oct. 18 the League already received several phone calls about the supplement. Delaware CUs plan to make the supplement an annual event. -
