HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell has launched a new effort to protect consumers and keep them alerted to fraud. As part of that effort, the state Department of Banking has created a new Web site that will provide consumers with instant notification when the agency takes action against a financial services provider. The new Web site at www.banking.state.pa.us, went Oct. 4. The new site also features a search tool to connect consumers with financial service providers licensed and regulated by the Department of Banking. In announcing the new site, Gov. Rendell said "unfortunately there are individuals and companies who want to prey on people. The information that will be provided through this Web site will empower consumers to make informed decisions about where they do business."
