Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Md., has been named the Business Community Service Organization of the Year, and was presented with the Good Neighbor Award by the Harford County Human Relations Commission. The Good Neighbor Award is designed to recognize and encourage businesses and community organizations to fulfill the mission of "promoting equality, understanding and harmonious relations between the citizens of the county." Other recognition for APGFCU included certificates of appreciation from Senator Paul Sarbanes, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, State Senator Bobby Hooper, and Harford County Executive Jim Harkins. APGFCU's volunteer Community Involvement Committee has already allocated over $50,000 for 2005 first quarter contributions. DM Federal Credit Union, Tucson, Ariz., President/CEO Robert D. Ramirez was named Eller College Associate of the Year. The award was presented to Ramirez for contributing a considerable amount of time and commitment to the goals and purpose of the University of Arizona's prestigious Eller College. Ramirez has been an Eller College Associate since May of 2000. Ramirez was also inducted as an honorary member, to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society of collegiate schools of business and management programs. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest national scholastic honor that students in business or management programs can achieve. Service Plus Credit Union, Riverside, Calif., has presented its first annual "People Helping People" Award to University of California staff member David Stevens. Stevens was recognized for his exemplary contributions to the community of Riverside. As a recipient of the award, Stevens received a plaque and a check for $500 from Service Plus. A $100 Stater Bros. gift card was also presented for David's neighbors, the Mendoza family, who David and Lee have "adopted" when their home was destroyed in 2003. T & C Federal Credit Union, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Clarkston Branch Manager Heidi Wood and Al Deeby Dodge Owner Jim White have been recognized by the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce for co-sponsoring The Taste of Clarkston Entertainment Stages. The two organizations have worked together to ensure that both stages will have entertainment from 12:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th. The sponsorship also includes street performers for the event.
