El Paso Employees Federal Credit Union, Texas, has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to nine graduating high school seniors and seven undergraduate students. So far the total awarded to El Paso students has swelled to $141,000. Receiving $4,000 four-year scholarships are: Adrian I. Montalvo and Matthew Eric Dahlgren. Receiving $1,000 scholarships are: Jose Miguel Landeros, Miriam Laraine McKenzie, Michelle Marie Sandoval, Sujehy Arredondo, Christopher Andrew Ontiveros, Justine Logsdon and Jesus Medrano from Del Valle High School. Undergraduate students receiving $1,000 each include: Claudia Veronica Morales, Lorena Rios, David Ayala, Hermela Teferi, Rebecca R. Arellano, Kristen Y. Medina and Rebecca Olsen. Louisiana Credit Union League, Harahan, has awarded scholarships to the Southeast CUNA Management School to three Louisiana credit union professionals. Lafayette Schools FCU Vice President of Lending Lisa Bourque has been awarded the 2005 Edgar L. Fontaine Memorial Scholarship, a three-year scholarship covering 100% tuition for the first year and 50% tuition for the second and third years. Carter FCU Vice President of Lending Earl Hodgins and University of Louisiana FCU Senior Vice President Debbie Kidder have each been awarded the 2005 SRCUS Management School Scholarship, which will pay 50% of their tuition to the Southeast CUNA Management School this year. AmeriCU Credit Union, Rome, N.Y., has announced the recipients of the 2005 annual scholarship program. Each winner, recognized for academic excellence, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help them achieve their higher education goals. In the graduating High School Senior category, scholarships were awarded to Matthew Merulla and Kristen Palinski. In the Continuing College Student category, scholarships were awarded to Matthew Drury and Anna Popowski. Silver State Schools Credit Union, Las Vegas, has announced the winners of its 2005 scholarships for high school seniors. The original scholarships, named for former board members Arlene Parkinson and Bart Roche, have been augmented by a third, named for current board chair Leonard Petoske. Each scholarship awards $2,000 annually, renewable for up to four years, and is awarded to seniors who demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics and community service. In addition, a fourth scholarship will debut in 2005 – the SSSCU Scholarship – and will comprise a needs-based award of $1,000 a year, renewable for four years. This year's winners are: Lindsay Gilmour , Christopher Appuglise, Arianna Pea , and Krystle Carpenter. Community Resource Federal Credit Union, Latham, N.Y., has named Bridget Seebald the recipient of its TeenSmarts College Scholarship. Seebald has been award $500 and was selected based on several factors ranging from academic excellence to community involvement. Fiberglas Federal Credit Union, Newark, Ohio, has announced that member Andrew Owens was selected is the recipient of the Central Ohio Chapter of Credit Unions scholarship. Owens was chosen from hundreds of entries from across Central Ohio to receive a $500 scholarship. Langley Federal Credit Union, Newport News, Va., has presented four deserving young members with the Galaxy Graduate $5,000 College Scholarship award for academic achievement. This was the first year in LFCU history that four $5,000 scholarships were awarded. This year's winners are Camil Liceaga, Casey Morrison II, Andrew Pao, and Rebecca Sanderson. The Galaxy Graduate Award is one of the benefits of belonging to LFCU's Constellation Club, designed for children through the age of 18. Firstmark Credit Union, San Antonio, has named the winners of the Frank Price Cunningham & Helen Shipman Cunningham Scholarships. Each year, the ten, $1,000 scholarships are awarded to area high school seniors from public and private schools. BMI Federal Credit Union, Columbus, Ohio, has named this year's Jack Diebert Scholarship recipients. Winners include Amy Grover, Heidi Knoblock, Amanda Osborne and Vinika Powal. Each was awarded $1,000. Vantage Credit Union, St. Louis, has awarded Quest for Education Scholarships to 25 high school seniors. Recipients received a combined $25,000 in scholarships. In the past 22 years, Vantage has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to area high school seniors. Winners were chosen based on a combination of a student-written essay; appropriate honors and awards; participation in extra curricular, community and volunteer activities; employment; recommendation letters; and credit union membership.
