WASHINGTON – By a vote of 65-5, the House Financial Services Committee passed legislation May 25 designed to strengthen the regulation of the housing Government Sponsored Enterprises. The measure now goes to the full House for a vote. Similar legislation is expected to be taken up by the Senate. In a statement from Fannie Mae, SVP-Communications Chuck Greener called the Committee's action "a significant step forward in the process of strengthening the safety and soundness oversight of our company and the GSEs. While work remains to be done, we are committed to working cooperatively and constructively with members on both sides of the aisle as the legislation continues to progress through the House and Senate, and we are hopeful a bill will be signed into law this year."
