SAN JOSE, Calif. – Bay area small business owners now have another lending resource to turn to. The $948 million Meriwest CU has launched its business banking services division, making it one of the first local credit unions to do so, according to the CU. Meriwest is marketing this service by launching an advertising campaign that makes light of the services banks currently provide small businesses including checking with interest; loans; savings; online services such as bill payment and e-statements; merchant services, payroll services and business credit cards. The business banking services will be headed by Richard Borland, Meriwest assistant vice president of business banking, who will be responsible for overseeing and monitoring the business loan portfolio, training and supervising staff and creating policies consistent with the credit union's goals. "Our goal and focus is to provide the business community with the products and services that will meet their needs, along with providing the personal attention that business owners demand," said Borland. "In addition, businesses will enjoy significant savings by avoiding the high fees and prohibitive deposit requirements typical of most business banking relationships." Credit Union Times featured Meriwest in an article earlier this year on a preview of its business banking services launch.
