AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas House of Representatives approved a measure – H.B. 492 – that makes financial literacy education in Texas a prerequisite for graduation from any public or charter high school in the state. H.B. 492 was championed by state Rep. Beverly Woolley (R-136) chair of the House Calendar Committee. It now goes to the state Senate. Woolley has been a long time proponent of financial education. Texas Credit Union League President/CEO Dick Ensweiler said he was "delighted that our lawmakers, led by financial literacy champion Rep. Beverly Woolley, joined together to pass such an important piece of legislation. Teaching financial education in schools is the best way to prepare our young adults to succeed and to make wise financial decisions. It is the right thing to do."
