WASHINGTON-The President recently announced that he intends to nominate Ben Bernanke to be chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. Bernanke currently serves as a Federal Reserve Board governor and has been rumored as a possible replacement for Fed chairman after Alan Greenspan's term expires Jan. 31, 2006. He is also a professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University, a position he has held for 20 years. Bernanke previously taught at Stanford University, New York University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
