HOUSTON – Allpoint, the national ATM network which offers credit unions ATM access fee-free to their members, has picked up hundreds of new ATMs in the New York area thanks to a purchase by its ATM partner Cardtronics. The Houston-based Cardtronics, the ATM deployer whose machines Allpoint uses, announced the purchase of 450 machines from BAS Communications Inc, an independent service organization headquartered in New York City. In making the announcement, Cardtronics CEO Jack Antonini said, "We are pleased to expand our already significant presence in the boroughs of New York City. These high-traffic locations are the type of merchant-clients that formed the foundation of Cardtronics from its beginnings and remain the heart of our business." The majority of the machines are located in non-chain, independent grocery stores primarily in Brooklyn, the Bronx, upper Manhattan and to a lesser extent in Queens and on Staten Island, the firm said. The additional machines lifts the number of ATMs available nationwide to Allpoint participants to more than 32,000.
