NCUF Looking for CU Partners to Provide Homebuyer Counseling Services

WASHINGTON – The National Credit Union Foundation was awarded a Housing Counseling grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to act as a financial intermediary in providing homebuyer counseling services to low-to moderate-income people to prepare them for homeownership. Now the NCUF is looking for CUs to award funds to be used to provide counseling programs locally to members of their communities. HUD's Housing Counseling grants provide funds to non-profit organizations to provide homebuyer counseling and education services to low-to moderate income people to prepare them for homeownership. In 2002, NCUF was designated a HUD-approved Housing Counseling National Intermediary. In the past two years it has won awards totaling more than $1 million which resulted in funding to 13 CU partners each year. CUs interested in providing housing counseling to low-to-moderate income consumers should complete the NCUF's HUD sub-grantee application packet at www.ncuf.com. Applications must be submitted electronically by April 8 to NCUF's Director of Program Development Ruth Jaure.
