FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington CUL and Jump$tart have teamed up to launch the 1st Annual Jump$tart Art Contest. Led by Washington Credit Union League Senior Vice President Stacy Augustine, the public awareness campaign is designed to not only give Washington's students $1,200 in savings bonds but also increase awareness of the importance of personal finance literacy. The contest, Plotting the Course: Mapping Your Financial Future, is the brainchild of the Public Awareness Committee that Augustine chairs as a member of the board of directors for Jump$tart Washington. Washington State Employees Credit Union and Twin County Credit Union are the presenting financial sponsors. The contest is being offered to all Washington students in grades 1-12 and will run until March 15th. To enter students are submitting artwork that best portrays mapping their financial future. The grand prizewinner will receive a $250 savings bond and one student from each grade will receive a $100 savings bond. Winning entries will be featured on a school year calendar distributed to schools, libraries, and participating financial institutions. Winning artwork featured in the calendar will list the student's name and school along with the credit union that the submission was received from. “This is a great opportunity for students to show off their creative genius, while learning more about financial literacy,” said Augustine. “This contest and the calendar featuring our young members' artwork, naming our credit unions will be a great marketing tool for our educators as they visit schools that recognize the association of credit unions with youth financial literacy.” Winners will be announced in April to kick off Youth Financial Literacy Month.
