KINGSPORT, Tenn. – When Woodland Elementary students came up with a fundraising project for tsunami victims, Eastman Credit Union helped make each penny count. "Give Change, Change Lives" was the project started by Ms. Mary Nell McIntyre's fourth grade class at Woodland Elementary. The students decided to collect one coin for every fatality resulting from the December 26 tsunami disaster. ECU not only provided a coin-counting machine but also donated 50,000 pennies ($500) to help the class reach its goal of 225,000 coins. Some 287,245 coins totaling $6,700 were collected. "Our goal at ECU is to serve and help our communities. We were excited about being a part of this project," said ECU President/CEO Olan O. Jones, Jr. "Staff and volunteers of ECU appreciate the opportunity to give back to the community and this was one way that we could help."
